Celebrating strength, freedom and hope, “Backflip” is inspired by the INCREDIBLE Circus Kathmandu, which is founded by survivors of child trafficking in Nepal. This piece is part of a collection of work which seeks to raise awareness and funds to reduce the likelyhood of children being sold in Nepal, a problem which is rife and ruins lives. Worldwide, more than 40 million people are trapped in modern slavery, one in four of them are children. An estimated 12,000 to 15,000 girls aged between 6-16 are trafficked from Nepal to India every year. The majority of them end up in brothels. These sculptures are raising funds to enable Circus Kathmandu to continue their work, telling their own stories through circus, to ensure that as many children and adults in trafficking prone areas, are as aware of the dangers as possible.
